Windows won't start

    Hi I booted up computer today, windows started but my AVG was having problems updating, I tried to update, it wouldn't, so I restarted the computer. When I did I received this message:

    A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer.

    Please help, I have tried everything in my limited knowledge of computers, no luck!

    I am running XP Pro service pack 2

    Yes, I started in safe mode. I do not have internet. I tried in safe mode with networking but still no internet. I ran my spybot, and avg. I tried a few other things, not sure if it is a virus????:confused
