    Recently my computer crashed, and couldn't even tell I had a file system. I recovered my files, rebuilt the file system, and performed a Windows Repair from the CD. All seemed fine until I attempted to clean up the Start Menu. When I right-click on a program icon and choose to remove from list it will do it fine for the first one. After that it freezes for a moment then I get an error that says it has to shut down Windows explorere because it experienced a problem. Then moments later I get the same notice of an error for Dr Watson, and it shuts down as well. After that I have to shut down and restart to get my icons and menu bar back. Anyone have any idea what's happening, and how I can correct this?

    We'll first things first, retrieve the dr. watson log file to find out what may be in it.

    DrWatson32.exe is inside *\windows\system32\
    By launching the program you should be able to discover where it saves the log file.

    For example my log files go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

    And you might try to start explorer.exe again (when it crashes) using task manager. (This is instead of a complete reboot so you can hopefully keep the system up while trouleshooting)

    Ctrl+alt+del
    task manager
    File-->New Task(run)-->explorer

    Normal behavior for explorer.exe is for it to automatically restart on its own, being crucial to the GUI and windows. I suspect its trying too and fails, and the good doctor is just there to let you know about it. ;)
