I have been using the command Ctrl+Alt+PrintScreen (in Windows XP) to "take a picture" of everything on the screen, which can then be pasted (to Photo Editor, for example) by Ctrl+V.

Recently I bought a Compaq Presario notebook computer. I wanted to do the same thing there, but on its simpler keyboard, there is no Print Screen key. Is there any alternative way to execute this same command, or am I just out of luck??

Thanks, Tim, it worked! This will help a lot.

There's one thing it didn't help with, though. I have some home movies on DVD. I wanted to find a way to get a still photo of a frame and then convert it into a JPG. I tried running the DVD in Media Player and doing the Screen Print Copy thing. I thought this would be a nice low-tech way to get my still photos. But it didn't work. The picture showed a dark screen.

Is there a way to accomplish what I want? Do I need to buy some fancy software to do it?

Thanks, Tim, you're the man! Their advice about disabling overlays did NOT work with Ctrl+Alt+Fn+PrintScreen, but Ctrl+I did. Awesome!

OK, here's another tricky Windows Media Player question. What if I wanted to take just the sound from a DVD and turn it into an MP3 or WMA? Is there a quick way to do that? If not, I have to copy it to a cassette and then go to my old Phillips CD burner and convert it to CD, then rip the CD to MP3. Too much work! Is there an easier way?

    Try Gadwin Printscreen, free. http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/
You have to set it up differently if you want to print the full screen, as distinct from a part of the screen. Not that difficult. Bazza

Ctrl+Alt+PrintScreen? I just hit print screen alone on my computer. :)

Yes but on laptops its generally the case that you need to hold and press FN+Prt Sc smaller keyboards, so they need to double up some keys, hence having to use FN ( function key )
