    Welcome to Major Geeks.
    I personally use a better third-party defragger.
    UltimateDefrag(free domain version).
Faster and better than Windows variety.
IOBit SmartDefrag is also very good.

I'm not going to disagree with an eagle, that is for sure!! :-D

I use windows defrag myself.. I get concerned with having so much '3rd party ' stuff, taht I would be concerned with resource hogging...... I use mine once a month, but wondered if I should do it once a week instead? Always learning, you know! :-D

    To TeeCee
No need to worry about resource if you use my method.
Turn off all programs that are running.Gets a much better defrag since files aren't being shifted around.
Ultimate Defrag can also optimize as it defrags.

OK, hrlow2, you have my attention now.. :-D
I will have to check into that one of these days, as my day is coming to an end here.... Catch you tomorrow, ;)

I think I can give that a whirl, but another day...... LONG day today...:-D

Just need to know where to find it. When I run defrag., that is the only thing I run anyway....

That is another improvement over Windows.

My favorite is Diskeeper 2009 Professional (not 'lite') and I have it on 2 XP machines. Love it's automatic defrag feature. But it's not free....

Otherwise, i usually stick to the in-built Windows defragger which is safe, especially with Vista. Sometimes Vista does not get along well with the freeware defraggers; also none of the freeware defraggers defrag the MFT (but Vista's does).
