Windows XP Disc

Hi,
I have lost my windows XP discs.
I have got several PC's with the Licence keys and need to reinstall windows. How can I find out which version of XP works with each key?
I.e SP1a, SP2,

Use Speccy

Then in Speccy in the left box.
Go and Click on Operating System

In the right window look for Serial Number it should tell what the Keys are.

will it definitely work with my key as i know they are version specific.

 

XP can be XP Retail home and XP retail PRO or XP OEM home and XP OEM PRO. Each disk has a different code in \i386\setupp.ini. You cannot use a retail key if you have a OEM disk or vice versa. You need to find out if you have a home or pro key and if it is OEM or retail. There is a way to alter the disk to change it but I am not going to go into it here. Just Google "How to Change XP version".

If you have the COA stickers on the computers, it should say what version you have, home or pro. If the computers are something like HP or Dell then you know these keys are OEM.

One other thing. You cannot transfer OEM keys between computers. The key stays with the computer it was initially activated on.
