    Hey,
Ive just installed windows xp pro from my boot disk that i borght, but before i did this i total wiped my hard drive with the system disk i got with the computer...
So naturally that installed XP home...

Everything is running well, but when i turn my pc on, it gives me an option to run:
    Windows XP Professional
    Windows XP Home Edition

So theres 5gb of my HDD thats being used up by this version of windows i dont want...
How do i totaly remove the home edition?

    Thanks in advance, Josh.

boot with the xp pro disk, it should give you the option to format your C: drive, and just start over, do that, then everything should be fine.

    OR....

First question, does XP PRO boot? IF so, then follow the following instructions:

Right click on My computer, then select properties, then select the Advanced Tab, then select the properties button within "Startup and Recovery".

Next click edit near: "To edit the startup optionsfile manually....."

Copy and paste the info you see there, and we will get back with you on what you need to edit out.

    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS.0="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /noexecute=alwaysoff
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

I realize its a drag, but MellowMan has a point, a clean install of Pro is better, as it looks live you've installed it OVER home, but if it is working, and you REALLY don't want to re-do it, then you should only need to delete the last line there to remove XP home from the startup option list.

    Ive removed the last line
XP Home hasnt got any programmes at all installed, so i guess if Pro ever failed me, i could use it as a backup.

    Oh just one little thing...
When i press shift and number 2, i get this symbol @
Because im english im used to it being the speach bubble things, how do i change this?

    Thanks again :)

You would have to select the correct keyboard layout. To do so, please follow the steps below:

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double click Regional And Language Options
    3. Select the 'Languages' tab
    4. Under 'Text Services And Input Languages' press the 'Details' button

To add a keyboard layout, highlight 'keyboard' with a single click and press the 'Add' button. Unfortunately, I don't know which specific one you're after, so you will have to play around!
