Ok so here's my problem. I have a Compaq Presario C751NR laptop, and it came with Vista installed on it. (icky) I also have a Mocrosoft Windows XP CD, an official one, and what I wanted to do was totally reformat the hard drive and put XP on there. Well, when I put the XP cd in and boot from the disk, I click on install a fresh copy of windows and it says that it does not detect any hard drive. Is this because the drivers for the hard drive are not contained on the XP cd? Or am I missing something else? Any help would be great and I thank anyone that can help in advance for any information. Below I will list the specs of the laptop itself.

Intel Pentium Dual-Core mobile processor T2330 with 1.6GHz processor speed; 1GB DDR2 memory; Multiformat DVD+-RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support; 15.4" WXGA high-definition LCD widescreen display with BrightView technology; 120GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm); Built-in high-speed wireless LAN (802.11b/g); Windows Vista Home Premium

You might well need a sata driver to get the disc recognised, -- press f6 as it comes up while windows is loading , initially, and then have the driver you downloaded saved on a floppy.
However, I would check that your laptop will work correctly with XP, as some later ones with Vista on, might give you problems, with drivers.

I was wondering about having a SATA driver. My only problem with that is that I don't have a floppy drive to load one from. Do you know if it would be possible to take my XP disk, make a backup copy of it and slipstream a SATA driver into that?

Slipstreaming is something that I have not played with much - only a little.
    It is no doubt possible.
You need to copy XP to your hard drive, and NLITE.
However, I do believe you need to have XP already installed on your computer to do this- but, paerhaps someone can correct me on this, as I have not tried it on a different operating system.
