Ok I'm trying to fix a PC with XP home installed. PC has 2GB of ram and a fairly old CPU but don't think it makes much difference to the issues. Upon boot up it gets to the 'welcome screen' and stays there. I can still move the mouse so it doesn't lock up. The only way I can get to the desktop is through safe mode. Even safe mode with networking won't load the desktop.

When I try to look at any drivers or device manager the windows lock. Not the OS but the window device manager is trying to load into. I suspect a virus(s) but I'm not sure if to try sfc command or go at it as if the virus is causing the problem.

Any help would be a major help. Of you need any more info please just let me know.

    Thanks in advance!
