Windows XP not allowing to use internet?

Really Strange I am pretty knowledge able but this one has me stumped!

I use IE it works I use firefox any version nit does not work from 3.0 to 3.5.5.

interesting is it not to make it even worse if I use proxy in firefox it works?

Now saying that i check for malware and nothing, i know i installed like a million program and uninstalled them so something changed something and now i can't see to get FF to work? It is not just FF it is any program trying to reach the internet. I use Curl.exe for a lot of my http gets from the command line and even that is saying no internet? I use a sniffer and I don't see any packets from these programs. any ideas anybody :cool

 

You should first explain what your Network, and Internet connection are like?

 

Well I am on a cable modem connection. wired. with a cat 5 cable.

I have 3 other computers all connect ok with wired router and switched out cable not like that should metter but i did just incase
I have hardly anything running in the process menu or task manager area.

I do a ipconfig and nothing out of the ordinary there. Maybe i am missing something?

 

Did you try completely removing firefox and reinstalling it? Removing all firefox registry entries as well during uninstall. Also, do you have any firewalls possibly blocking the program itself firefox?
