Windows XP on SATA.

My 80 GB IDE HDD is 10 years old. I will soon have to purchase a new HDD that'll be SATA. Which is the easiest way to install Windows XP on a SATA HDD? Even Windows XP Professional SP3 doesn't include SATA drivers. I cannot find SATA drivers for my ASRock G41M-VS3 motherboard. And even if I can, using a floppy disc is not an option.

Does anyone have experience with Easy2Boot?

Also, if I install Windows 7 and then Windows XP, will that solve the problem? I can always fix the MBR with EasyBCD.

    Hi Eldon

Not finding SATA drivers for your mobo is the crux issue, but if you do find them you can just add them to a XP install disk, then when you need to add drivers you browse tothe location on the disk.

Would you not stick with Windows 7? as that would remove your issue? and no you couldn't install Win 7 then downgrade to XP sadly.

I just wonder if any Intel SATA driver will work... I must have one somewhere.

    No on Easyboot.. sorry,

    Thanks DavidGP.
Windows 7 Ultimate is my primary OS. Windows XP, to me, is like a classic car you take for a drive on a Sunday afternoon. But, there are no Sunday afternoons on the internet. I don't connect to the internet, or attach USB devices or load CDs/DVDs that don't belong to me. And Seven Remix XP* makes it look just like Windows 7.

I don't want to install Win7 and downgrade to WinXP. I wil partition the hard disc. I know different versions of Windows must be installed from older to newer. That's why I will fix the MBR if I do it the 'wrong' way.

    * There's also Live Remix XP (Vista) and Eight Remix XP. And IOBit has WinMetro that gives WinXP the Windows 8 Metro startup.

PS The motherboard has 1 IDE connector (2 devices) and 4 SATA connectors. I'm wondering if the SATA drivers are perhaps onboard?

Easy2Boot should work when installing from a standard XP 32-bit Install ISO.
