Windows XP/Power Point failed?!!!

Hi. I purchased a Dell computer about 3 years ago. All the programs was installed for me by someone else. I have homework assignment with powerpoint, but when I try to use the AutoContent Wizard, it won't let me finish it. It says that I need to install the program. It says to get the CD-Rom and install the Microsoft Office 2000 premium or to look for the program in my file for 'Data1.MSI'. I even got the CD-Rom out from the package I received from Dell, but that didn't do anything. I don't understand why I can't use it. I have tried it many times but still get the same message. How do I install it?

 

The data1.msi file is unique to the CD used for your install. If Dell hasn't packaged you a copy of the files needed, you should contact them. However, they usually do include pre-installed software on their recovery discs (how else would you recover it? ), so I would recommend a thorough search of your discs, including inside .cab files which may be missed.

 

what should the cd say on it? I've looked at all of them and none of them seems like it's the right one. And also, what is the cab file? Sorry, I'm a virgin when comes to computer jargon.

 

Hmm...they should say recovery disc, or something of the sort. I don't really know. Read them closely, and I'm pretty sure you'll get the idea...maybe they say recovery disc, or software, or operating system.

And cab files are compressed files. They have a little blue filing cabinet icon. You can open them with winzip or winrar. A good way to find JUST these is to insert a disc, and search the cdrom drive for *.cab....you'll get a listing of all of them on the current CD
