pc2100 not 2700 ...your board runs at 133fsb and the 2700 is for a 333fsb
Look at the specs on the board

and these rams can fit into eachothers slots? and this means i have the wrong ram since i bought this computer cause like i say the original ram that came out is pc 2700.

so for like 2 yrs its been wrong AHHHHHH!! LMAO ok so i guess i gotta get some diff ram and try again.

How the heck did the comp run fine for so long with th wrong ram LOL man this gets crazier by the minute.
ok off to work i will check back later.

Just note that the three slots are for sdram (pc100/133) ane the other two are for ddram (pc200/266 - pc2100)
sorry backwards:# Three 184-pin DDR DIMM, maximum size up to 3GB.
    # Two 168-pin SDRAM DIMM, maximum size up to 2GB.

okay I an now truly about to give up.....

133 ram does not fit in my computer it has 2 notches on the stick my comp will only take a stick with 1 notch:confused: ....... spoke to the tech at the store where I bought the ram and he said ram reading of 224 is 100% correct for my system/video card and not to waste money on ram i dont need:eek:. he said mobo could be the prob but would have to take the comp in overnight to check. everything else he did right in front of me and no charge:) .

SO back at square 1 only worse, now I have No working XP and cant get 1 installed until i figure out the prob and I really dont want to take my comp in and give to someone else(altho he did seem decent after all he didnt have to tell me to save my $ on the ram.) However I just dont trust ppl so I dont know what to do next.

My bad ....yes, some video cards will use 32mg of available ram ....can you find the manuf. code on the board to identify it? I thought you indicated that it was the one that I posted the link to ....which had 5 ram slots. If it is not that board, we need to know what it is as it very well could be a higher freg. fsb speed and therefore able to use the pc2700 ....unfortunately ....if all that is correct, you are probably looking at either a failure of the board or the cpu.

is there a specific location for the code?

No ...it varies by manufacturer ...I usually need a magnifying glass to find it ..but if you think it is a msi ...snoop around that site and see if you can find it by sight.
Here us their list of mobos ...should be a number that matches one of these:

 ok Apparently when my g/f had this comp rebuilt there was a new board put in its a QDI.(sorry for the confusion)

this seems to be it same chipset-Sis962L and looks pretty much the same ( not sure about the ram tho...it has 2 slots like ours, just keep in mind I take PC2700....http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/Products/superb3lz.htm

We may be wasting your time, but since we now are not concerned about the ram ...if you could find the model number and then on that site for QDI hit download/manual ...you could look over the set up manual and see if there is any configuation info that might be of use to us ....thought you may have to take it to your friendly comp. guy if it is a cpu or mobo issue.

 well hold that thought... the unbelievable has happened:confused: . On a whim I decided after posting the previous message to try it one more time...and by the grace of Gates it friggin worked:) I cant believe it. Like nothing was ever wrong maybe the threat of going to the tech and possibly the garbage scared into working:confused: Who knows!!

Anyway at least I can close this thread on a good note.:)

    Thanks again,

    Darren.

TGIF (thank god it's fixed) ....could have simply been all the removing and reinstalling of the hardware ...something just not firmly seated ...either way ..hurrah.:) :)
