Windows xp pro locks up on restart

    Hi Chaslang. I'm a repeat offender you helped about 6 months ago, but I again have a similar problem.
    I've picked up a virus somewhere that first caused the computer to slow down considerably, then it wouldn't connect to the Internet. Now it locks up on the Windows XP screen on startup.
    At the present time I'm running on Safe mod with networking- it's the only choice that would connect to the Internet- after about 20 poweroffs and restarts!

    I've done the scans and will send the logs. I hope you can help- again.

    BTW, is it possible to pinpoint the source of the virus?

    While a couple of minor malware items were removed, it does not look like your problems are due to malware since your logs are clean. I do notice that you are using AVG7.5 which is out dated and no longer supported. I suggest that you uninstall this immediately and then reboot. If you still have lockup problems in normal boot mode then also uninstall Online Armor and see what happens. If uninstalling these make no difference, then you need to get a new AV installed (I suggest Avast or Avira) and then reinstall your firewall.

    You could also try running the below.

    Click Start, Run, and enter sfc /scannow and click OK. There is a space after the sfc. This runs System Rile Checker which looks for missing or corrupted system files and attempts to replace/repair them from files on your hard disk or from the CD if necessary. So it will ask for the Windows CD if it needs it.

    Other than the above you will have to post in the Software Forum to see if some one can help you with the lockup. A bootlog or Event Viewer log may report something.
