Windows Xp Pro New Install On An Old Machine Gets A Black Screen On Reboot

Bummer. Could at least trial fit the new MB and Power Supplies into your case to make sure they all fit/mount properly and no additional parts are needed.

I like Windows just fine up to and including 7 Pro but nothing beyond that. And absolutely WON'T touch/install/work on Win 10, Win 11 and ANYTHING Microsoft decides to puke out after (due to what I listed in my previous post for starters).

I use XP Pro (not as much as I use to), mainly use Win 7 Home Premium and 7 Pro {my preference of the 7s} (tho my one 7 Pro needs OS/Boot repairs and will at some point will likely ask about it here after New Years when more experts hopefully would be available/more able to help.).

IF and/or when a OS change may be needed, I will most likely use Linux and will probably be one of the Mint flavors (what little I have used it, I like it a lot). Interested in giving Tails and Zorin a try. What ever I choose, It will need to play nice with old hardware.

 

I have both processors and mb's now so I have mounted the processors and heat sink/fans. Still waiting on one set of memory sticks. Also ordered another SATA removable tray - I ordered them to use as an extra storage disk that I can use in multiple machines. Ordered some adapters, cables and a right angle adapter to use the front case USB ports too. 2nd set of memory sticks and 2 wireless network cards are to be here today. The rest should all be here by the 2nd week of January. Figured which case to use with which mb. Once finished I will have to figure out which case/mb/cpu gets Linux and what other OS to use.

 

Assembling one computer.
I have two different pics of the front panel wiring on the one mb manual, the other mb no info found yet!
Really tired of these errors! Bought the wrong processor because of incorrect info on Amazon!
Assuming the white wires are negative and colored wires are positive?
1st pic shows all positives on the left the negatives right.
Unless I am reading this incorrectly.
2nd pic shows positive on the left on the top row,
then positive, negative and negative, positive?
Assuming this 2nd picture wrong?

 

Here is a pic of the pins on the mb.
I does show two solid blue on the bottom 3 and 4 pins?

 

On that MB header connector the ONLY pins/contacts that are polarity sensitive are those for the Power LED (two Green pins) and the HDD LED (two Orange/Red pins). The only thing that would/should happen IF the LED polarity is wrong, is the LED won't light up when it should. IF that happens, just flip that offending LED plug around.

The only thing you might have to worry about on the Power Switch and Reset Switch (Blue pins) plugs is IF the plug housings are physically made in such a way that plugging them in the wrong way would prevent any of the other plugs from physically plugging in. Otherwise, electrically a switch usually doesn't care about polarity.
