    short version:

I do not have my password for the admin acccount but i am logged in. how do I change the password for my admin account for windows xp pro? i dun have my old password, forgot it, can't find the person who made it. btw it IS my computer.

    long version:

I am using windows xp pro..... when i got my computer, computer adminstrator account has a password for it and i didn't need to type in the password in order to login everytime i reboot the computer.. but just recently my brother keeps logging on my computer and going through my personal stuff & actually screwed up my programs actually... while i am in class. i want my privacy dam it. but the person who installed windows for me...set a password for it so if I log off or change the login-settings to password is required. i have to type the password for it to log in. happened a couple of times actually i hit the log off button by accident and i couldn't log in O_O so i just hit the reset button on my case to log in. so the problem is... i can't find that person who installed the windows for me therefore i can't contact him to get the password.. sooo how do i remove or change the password for my adminstrator account. i saw him do it once he went into safe mode or something..but that was like..a couple of years ago.. i dun remember... thanks in advance...i need help.......!

This will only work if the account you are currently logged into has administrator access-

Go to start, go to run, type "control userpasswords2" (no quotes), hit OK.

Highlight the account in question, hit "reset password".

You might need to uncheck "users must enter a user name and password" to do this, be sure to re-check it if you want that feature turned back on.

Hope this helps, and be carefull not to accidentally lock yourself out! :)

    Hiii,

thanks for reply but..it doesn't work for admin

    User Name group
adminstrator adminstartors <------ password for admin cltr-alt-del and press change password i see "reset password" but i can't click on it. it's faded.
ASPnet users <- works "reset password"
XP adminstrators <-- works "reset password"

By "Administrator account", do you mean your own Windows user account (which would be your real name or something like that) that has Admin privileges, or the special Windows Administrator account (which is - sort of - hidden from view)?

If it's the former, then you may want to take a look at this page on the MS KB:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321305

The section probably most relevent to your problem is under the title: Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional in a workgroup, as it details how to boot into Safe Mode and remove the password for a user account. Read the whole section throughly first before you try it.

Failing that, you may want to take a look at this page:

    http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm

Then you either are joined to a domain, or arent in an admin account.
