    Hi,

I am having an issue with my Windows XP Pro 2002 version SP2. All of the sudden about 1 month ago, my office suite programs stopped functioning. They will start to load, and the program will open, but before it starts working (and before any page within the program opens up) I get the, "Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The information you were working on might be lost. Microsoft Office Word can try to recover it for you."

So, once that happened I thought I'd check the microsoft page for updates (hoping one might fix the issue). I saw the SP3 update. But my computer would not let me install the update citing a Data cyclic redundancy error. Tried the Office suite updates and most of those didn't work due to the same error.

Thanks for any help you can give!

    Hi

Its possible you have file corruption of your hard drive, so I woudl first run chkdsk and to do this you will need your XP CD, and once in CD Drive, click Start > Run and type CMD then at the prompt type chkdsk /f ( note the space between k and / )

Then try an Detect and Repair on your Office version, done from the Help menu if a >Office 2003 or Office 2007 from the Orb > options > resources and run Microsoft diagnostics button.

Worst case is HD is on way out, so check with HDTune and its error scan for surface errors and check the health for SMART errors, all shoudl read OK normally

Well, before I read this I did a check disk from right clicking the OS drive, properties, then check disk. It found like 30+ bad clusters. so, yeah, sounds like corruption, right? Is there a problem with me having already done it this way? Should I still do it again through the XP Disc? also, I can not find the XP disc from this exact computer, but have it from my newer computer, can I use that disc or does it need to be from the on it shipped with. Both are XP Pro.

Also, could you please clarify the steps/directions that you said here,
"Then try an Detect and Repair on your Office version, done from the Help menu if a >Office 2003 or Office 2007 from the Orb > options > resources and run Microsoft diagnostics button."

    Thanks so much!

    Hi

Yes 30+ bad clusters is not good, but run chkdsk again to see if it picks up any more or the same bad clusters, no not a problem in the way you ran it, just I'm justed to running it from a command prompt.

If its XP Pro retail then it should be fine to use.

Yes no problems..... depending on the version of Office you have, please do tell us what it is BTW? then the way you run a repair on Office is slightly different.

Office 2003 and below, generally you run Detect and Repair from the Help menu, but as that may not work for you, copen Add/Remove in Control Panel and click the Office listing, then you should see Change click that and choose Repair from the next Menu. KB on this here

In Office 2007 the Repair functions are if the Office app loads ok, are found when you click the Windows ORB then click Options and then Resources and Run MSFT Diagnostics or if an Office app doesnt load from Add/Remove and click Office and choose Change and Repair at next menu. KB on it here

    File 81382
    Windows\softwa~1\Download\DD9AB5~1\wmipcima.dll

Was the only one this time. Not sure if that was one of the ones last time or not. Should I run it again and see if it comes up again?

Tried repairing Office and I got an

    Error 1311
    Source file not found
    C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-1103-8CFE-0150048383C9\YC561413.CAB

    So I couldn't run it.

    Hi Ross

Yes run it again, just to double check.

As for Office, try unhiding Files and Folders as well as System Files and Run the repair again, as the MSOCache is hidden folder as sometimes not found. To unhide in any folder click Tools > Folder Options > View and in the list click Show Hidden Files and Folders and untick Hide protected System Files ( recomended ) repeat and click opposite to return to hidden.

I think I already have them unhidden, but I'll check to make sure. Click "tools" where? I right-clicked on some folders and "Tools" wasn't an option.

Also, just an FYI, Office will now open and I can use it, but when I close it I get the "encountered a problem and needs to close" msg. Just thought I'd update. But, hey, Making progress, THANKS!
