Windows XP search for files help

    Hi

    I am trying to search for any document containing the word "CASH" using the windows search tool in Windows XP.

    I have been able to do this however EVERY document contains the words "cashback" and so EVERY document comes up when I just search "CASH"

    Is there anyway I can get it to omit "cashback" and refine the search crtieria?

    It is searching through a LOT of PDFs (a word or phrase in the file: = "cash")

    Hi

    XPs internal search is not great, it works until you need specific searching and sadly it doesnt have the power of the vista/win7 search engine, however try Agent Ransack Lite out, its alot more powerful, with better options for narrowing the field down with its Boolean options HERE

    Thanks for the response.

    Problem is though this is work related and we have Windows XP, my employer wont allow installation of ANY software :(

    I'll have to find another way

    Thats a bummer but I know what its like as where I work we cannot install anything either, need at least 1-3 months to get any app suggestion past the IT police! (which is right)


    I just now wonder how upto date your XP is and if it has Windows Search 4.0 installed as you can use the strings HERE as it did hit WU back in July 2008 as an optional update and look for KB940157 or Windows Search 4.0 in add/remove.

    Does this application dial home when turned on, when you enter text in the search field or if you change preferences? Windows XP does this and it annoys the sensibility out of me. Normally I am calm natured, but it frosts me to see an application doing that (phoning home) surreptitiously and without permission.
