Has SP3's release been postponed on Microsoft's website? April 29 was supposed to be the download center/microsoft update (optional) release date.

I haven't seen it on the download center, and three different computers find no available updates when I run the search.

I have noticed that at least 2 people had problems with audio, both simple fixes. Has anyone else run into problems with driver configurations getting re-set?

I could not update through Microsoft. It started the download and then just stopped. Then I couldn't get it to start up again.

I ended up using the MG download.

Muskie, my audio is working. I don't know about the rest of my drivers.

See this is the problem... A lot of people have no issues with SP3 and some do. & it's not just from windows update site but also from their automatic download from the systray. This seems to be a major issue worldwide.

I personally can't afford the time it takes to reinstall windows and all of my 40+ apps. I use Acronis True Image to make a backup of my entire C drive but I've never had to actually backup from Acronis so I am not sure if it works when things go wrong. I mentioned earlier that I got the SP3 pop up from my systray. Well I didn't install it... I'm going to let the ball roll for a bit and see how it goes.

Wise choice to do an Acronis Image file before installing a major Service Pack update, actually its wise to do before installing any new app.

Acronis is very good and I find that I validate the images after creation just to check and due to beta testing most MSFT apps and OSes I find that its the best way for me to have a blank default install build ready to go, so in the years I have used Acronis its not failed me yet on a re-install.

Do let us know how you get on with the XP SP3 udpate Superstar?

I have re-loaded with Acronis and it is very good, i had only one issue, i have a program Smart Draw and the serial number can not be transfered to another drive, to stop it being copied so when i re-loaded every thing i had to delete Smart Draw and re-install it from the beginning because there is no way to insert the serial after installation it must be done at the start of the install just like MS Office but the strange thing is Office transferred without a problem so obviously it is not the same for all apps.

    How do I...?

MS has not responded, no surprise!

The rebooting issue is (I think) why I want SP3 in the first place. I am having problems with my SP2 home edition crashing and rebooting. I think I am missing some files and I was hoping SP3 would solve that problem. :confused

I finally took the leap and installed it without a glitch. I made sure my antivirus program [avg], was shut down when I updated off the windows update home page. I also closed all of the items in my systray such as my m-audio sound card panel. The update took about an hour to download, verify, check my system config, than install. & just like others were saying earlier I too feel a small increase in pc speed. So far nothing out of the ordinary has happened on my machine. Everything seems to be in order... Oh by the way after sp3 installed my pc restarted and brought up a menu like when you install windows for the first time, which asked me if I wanted to turn on "automatic updates". Than my pc booted up and displayed a couple of dos command prompts which disappeared...

Hope you all have fun with sp3...
