Windows XP slow loading on boot

I just bought a new motherboard (Abit P35-e) and CPU (Intel e2180). Once I fitted it I booted up my existing Windows XP installation fine but because of such hardware changes I thought it would be wise to format and reinstall Windows.

Now, it can either boot up fine, which it runs very well or sometimes just before the Windows XP loading screen it just sticks on a black screen and I have to restart and try again.

It can sometimes load a faint image of the Windows XP loading screen, like it is just about to load/fade in but never does, it just sticks there.

Any ideas how to resolve the problem? It is XP Pro.
