windows xp sp3

    i just installed xp sp3 and the pc restarts again and again
    Any tips?

    I thought that the public version of the update was not released yet.

    In any case, when you say it
    do you mean that it loads Windows and then shuts down or that it doesn't get that far?

    it loads windows allright and restarts load again and restart and so on

    Reboot in Safe Mode and see if it does the same thing.
    (Press the f8 key while booting to enter the startup selection)

    thanks but i already returned to my backedup xp sp2
    and pc works as usual. I believe that SP3 is not yet OK

    That is the direction I was planning on suggesting anyway.
    I think that MS isn't ready to have the public download SP3 yet.
    I certainly have had no experience with it yet.

    i promise you SP3 is faster and better than SP2 but please go the Microsoft route and don't try using a patch on SP2.

    I am downloading SP3 right now from MS but will not install yet. Will wait to see further comments.

    SP3 has been reported to cause problems on Media edition PCs so I'd wait until it is offered for your computer via Windows Update.

    I and many others have learned from past microsoft glitches to never ever install anything as important as a service pack as soon as it`s offered to the public.WAIT AWHILE (i typically wait at least a month) until other brave souls have installed the service pack and worked with it for some time-------finding any bugs in the process.You`ll save yourself a lot of unnecessary headaches.
    When SP2 came out,microsoft offered it free on cd for a while----hopefully SP3 will be offered free on cd sometime.

    Fix for the reboot issue some see, no main casue as to why.

    • Boot from a Windows CD and go for the repair option.
    • Copy gdi32.dll from c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\gdi32.dll to c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll. (Do keep a backup copy of the old gdi32.dll in c:\windows\system32 directory)
    • Reboot normally


    XP SP3 has been removed from Windows Update download for now, for why it was pulled from WU for now it was due to Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and an incompatability issue, but many home users will not be running this so will nto be affected.

    One issue on XP Media Center is that many still have only SP1 installed and need to update to SP2 before SP3, it will fail jumping from SP1 to SP3.

    But as many know many variables will exist for something going wrong with a major update as in a service pack, most often than not its down to security applications, so make sure they are upto date or disable while installing Service Pack.

    Was running XP Home sp2 and decided to go ahead with the sp3 installation. No problems observed, even after allowing CCleaner and RegScrub XP to remove all issues they found. I believe that properly configuring and updating one's pc is key for reducing or eliminating installation hassles with complex software and operating system upgrades such as this.     When I boot off of Widows CD it asks for and admin password and that doesn't work when I put that in. or leave blank like I've been told.

    Any help would be appreciated
