Windows xp started to not shut down

I installed the microsoft updates yesterday, and, ever since I have been totally unable to shut windows down. Is there anyone who could walk me thru this dilema.

Huh? Do you mean build? It sounds like the system is Windows XP.

 

I mean exactly what I said, operating system. It hasn't been posted.

How does it sound like XP, it could be any Microsoft operating system?
