Well after a few days of searching around the net, trying various methods, I can not get simple drivers(usb keyboard or mouse) to auto load.

    Heres the situation:

    PC running xp home sp2
has bad ps2 ports(fried from being pulled out while pc ws on)
pc can't be wiped and restored.
new USB kb/mouse will not auto detect like it should(without user interaction)
system works in BIOS / custom Bart PE / Linux Live CDs.
I have access to the file system and the registry
No mouse of KB in any mode for windows
I can wait for windows to load and driver to come up, pop XP disk in, which it finds and starts to load drivers then I get the classic device driver not signed, which enables itself every boot after I disable it through regedit.:(

Here is what I have tried so far:

    chkdsk
    deleting inf cache
using regedit to import working reg of device drivers
    Disabling Windows Logo testing/driver signing
creating batch file to run on boot up to try to repair device signing.(using below)

    regsvr32 Softpub.dll
    regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 Initpki.dll
    regsvr32 Dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 Sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll
    pause

So basically the farthest I have come to getting a working kb/mouse is right up until it asks me if I want to let the driver go through.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated... i am running out of hair to pull out:p

Don't know what mobo you have, but modern mobos have settings for usb keyb & mouse. They must be enabled for usb keyb & mouse. Some newer mobos have built-in drivers for them. The setting can be set to either BIOS/OS. If this exists in your mobo, try toggling them.

You don't need to manually load any drivers unless your Windows isn't installed correctly.

Its about 3 year old compaq. Like many big company desktops the BIOS are very limited but the legacy usb has been set on enabled and on auto.

I had an idea last night of just getting a 9 pin serial to ps2 adapter if no one knew a fix for the problem. in theory this solution should work.

Is this a personal or work computer? Only asking because some companies disable USB devices to prevent data theft. Since your're using XP Home edition, I will assume it is a personal computer.

Any particular reason that wiping and reinstalling isn't an option? You did mention having an XP disk and this generally fixes USB problems with Windows!

Providing that you can boot Windows in Safe Mode, go into Device Manager, open the USB devices tab and delete everything shown, and reboot. Windows should find the devices and reinstall the drivers.

Your solution of the serial to PS2 should work, but unless you have two serial ports, you will only have either a keyboard or a mouse, and not both.

Easiest fix providing that you don't want to reinstall the OS would be to buy a PCI USB card and install it. Windows will recognize the new hardware and the drivers on the installation disk usually work fine. Windows update usually replaces these with Microsoft drivers.

    Hope this helps!:):):)

Its a personal pc for a client of mine. restore is an option just one i didnt really want to do.

If I use a serial device then i can get passed the windows logo testing and be able to finish the driver install for the usb devices.

Have you been to the HP/Compaq site, entered the model number and gotten the drivers for the motherboard? It doesn't sound like the proper ones for keyboard and mouse are installed.

I would if I could get into windows at all. since it doesn't load the USB drivers automatically, safe and normal mode doesnt work.

If I let it boot into windows normally, it auto logs into the one account, brings up the add hardware wizard for the keyboard or mouse, then i just pop in the xp disc and it automatically goes to the next step of searching for drivers. it find the proper drivers, then gives me the window for unsigned drivers/haven't passed windows logo testing. since the drivers havent actually loaded i cannot allow the driver.

You need to download the drivers using a computer that works. Then install them on the computer that doesn't work once windows loads pointing to a CD or a floppy (I assume a flash drive wouldn't work because all USB is non-functioning). The motherboard drivers load before windows loads - you have no working input device until windows loads. You need the drivers not dependent on windows loading or not loading.
