I have an Athalon 1.3 on an ASUS motherboard. It had Windows 2000 until I tried to install XP. During the install it could not find viaide.sys. I searched aroound for it & finally cancelled, & continued with the install thinking I could add it later. When the machine tried to reboot after the reboot it stopped. I don't remember all the details but it basically said windows didn't start successfully & offers several suggestions + the usual choices for restarting (Safe Mode etc.) Just before this occurred it looked like it briefly flashed the Post screen & the last think it said was... 'Detecting IDE drives'.

Did I hose everything by not installing viaide.sys? Is there anyway I can fix this without wiping the harddrive?

    Thanks,
    Bob
