Ok so I got a new Mobo and now Windows XP will not boot. Just goes to the screen stating windows didn't start correctly. Then gives the options for Safe mode, Normal, last good settings. I can't even boot from the Windows XP CD. I boot in the disk select to boot from CD. The Windows Setup screen appears but I never get options to Repair or reinstall it does copies a bunch of files/drivers then down at the bottom right it says "Setup is starting Windows" then it just sits there. The rest of the screen is blank other than the Windows Setup text at the top left corner.

Yeah, if you're not able to enter into repair, there may not be any
other option but to reinstall the os.

That's one really cool thing about running a scsi mobo.
I took a 50 pin scsi hard drive from an Intel mobo PIII setup,
    put the adapter card
into another computer with the drive, (the other computer btw is
a dual proc amd scsi setup on a Tyan mobo) hit start and it booted
right up! It did a bunch of hardware upgrade popups and
then it was running at full steam.
It actually caught me off guard since I know this is supposed to be a big problem with XP. I was only going to format it for sale
on ebay, so it really surprised me to see it start right up.

Is there a way I can reinstall if booting from the CD doesn't give me the option to reformat/reinstall? Do I have to create a floppy boot disk?

Ok so I tried a completey new harddrive it is completely empty right out of the box. I can't even get it to install windows XP. It boots from the CD next screen shows it is copying files then states starting windows. Then it just sits there. Is there something I could have missed installing the hardware that would cause this? I am trying to install Windows XP Home. Any ideas why it wont let me install?

I recently had to replace my motherboard, but managed to perform a Repair install of XP Pro without any bother.

However, when fresh-installing XP corporate edition onto some other computers in the office, we were getting the same problem with the install hanging at the copying files stage. I obtained a 98SE boot floppy with Smartdrv.exe on it, booted to the floppy, installed Smartdrv first and the XP installation went ahead without further problems.

It's not uncommon for XP not to boot after the drive is placed into a PC with different hardware, so I wouldn't be concerned about that. Have you considered that it's possibly the CD-ROM? Check your jumper settings, try a different CD-ROM, try a different IDE cable. Heck, even try a different Windows CD. I've seen all of those things cause issues like this.

Some of the most common reasons for the CD hanging at setup is starting windows:

    1. Incorrect jumper settings on drive.
    2. Using RAID or SATA that requires a driver to be loaded prior (The CD prompts you at F6)
    3. The motherboard doesn't support ACPI (Unlikely if its new).
    4. The IDE or SATA cable is bad.
    5. There is a hardware problem with the motherboard.

Ok so I formatted the drive with a Windows 98 boot disk that didn't help.

Jumpers on the drive are set to Master for CDROM and Hard Drive(They are on separate IDE cables) Even tried changing the Hard Drive to Cable Select. I replaced the IDE cable for the Hard Drive with a new one as well. Still nothing.

It's just an IDE Drive not a Sata drive.

I am wondering if it is my video card. I have an XFX 6800GT card. So I wondering if that or some other hard ware is not getting detected correctly.

Try this. When booting off of the CD and it says to press F6, start tapping F5 until it comes up with a selection screen. Choose whatever standard option there is.

Adrynalyne, you are a pure genius! It finally allowed me to install windows after chooseing a Standard i486 system!

    Thats great!

Here is the bad news though. That motherboard should support ACPI, without blinking an eye. There may be something wrong with it.
