Okay, I have been bad. This is not related to AtAmAcA, even though it's along the same lines. I promise. I'll tell you my story, who could make this up?....

I went over to get my parent's cat 'cause they are going to be out of town for a week and a half (skiing in Colorado). Ashley, their cat heard me coming in and ran and hid. I looked ALL over for him to no avail. So I decided that while I was waiting I would clean up my parents computer. Oops, bad idea. So I clean up internet files first, delete cookies, delete internet files. Then I go on to do scan disk, they had not emptied their trash in who knows when, they had something like 167,000 kb in there, 267,000kb of internet files, blah, blah, blah. So, I check to delete everything in the scan disk. About 7-10 minutes later this message pops up saying that I deleted files that windows was using and an unknown version was there now, so please insert the Windows XP disk to restore those files. Unfortunately, like the damn cat, I could not find the disk ANYWHERE. Ack!

So, what I want to know is, can I restore the system to a point before I messed it up? I tried to get a hold of my ex-boyfriend to walk me through the process but couldn't get a hold of him, I've seen him do this. I have searched the board and have found restore system threads but nothing saying how to do it. You see I'm on Windows 98, so I don't have the luxury of restoring to a previous date.

I really need to fix this before they get back, if I want to live.

    Please help me.

Oh, and I did right click on my computer and system restore is enabled. I restarted the computer twice after the fact and didn't see a difference (not that that means squat). The first time I shut it off a message poped up about the system but the computer shut off before I was able to read it.

AbbeySue, I will go back tomorrow and try this, thanks.

You really need the CD, perhaps you have a friend or neighbor you can borrow a CD from just to replace the files? If its only a file or two, and you know what they are, you might be able to find them on the internet or reinstall certain applications.
