windows xp

i cannot get my windows xp to update. i have tried several things. apparently there must be something causing this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

i have run avg virus, ccshredder, hjt, right now i am running trojan hunter. when i get to th updates, it stops and freezes the computer, so i know for some reason there is something there stopping it from updating

Just for interest sake which browser are you using to do the updates? Mine are all auto but if I want to do them manually I have to use IE (good old MS trying to enforce consumerism and they call Linux and GNU supporters communists) as FF wont do it!

Also, FF can do windows updates, if you use the IE tab extention.

Are you using the link to Windows Update from the start menu of XP or are you going in via the URL link from a browser?

If you have a firewall, diable it as to test that for being the cause.

Try this one, slightly different link to windows update as it the newer Microsoft Update site, which covers other products in the MS range ( Office for one ) http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

if you get any errors or messages please list them word for word.

but I have a suspicion that the Dial a Fix... theefool posted above will do the trick.
