I have Windows XP I have downgraded it for Win98 I have only the floppy disk no CD what so ever, I formatted the C: drive with FORMAT C: /s so that the files are automatic, for the Label I put Apple Juice so then I reboot then IT shows the Windows 98 logo right after 1 second It takes me back to the C:\> command prompt it seems that the C:\ is missing a label but I named it Apple Juice was there anything i needed?

Contact the manufacturer of your system or the place you purchased it.

Very odd to downgrade from XP to Win98, first I have heard of it.

Errrr.... XP is probably the best OS that M$ has come out with so far. It uses the NT-kernel (win 2k upgraded, basically) which is excelent for speed and security, a better driver framework, and better management over resources.

But... there is a reason you might go back to 98, if your computer wasnt fast enough to support it. But yours obviously can, as it was pre-loaded with it.

Do you have a windows XP key on stuck on the side of your case anywhere? If so, you can borrow a CD from a friend who has XP (make sure its whatever version you had, i.e. if you had home you need to get a XP home disk) and you can use that key to do a fresh install. Just put the CD in, boot it up, delete your current partition, create a new one, format the partition with NTFS (long format) and then follow through the steps and install the full OS.

If you had XP in the first place, the hard drive will be formatted as NTFS, so FORMAT C: will not do the job! You need to FDISK it and reformat the partiton as FAT32, or windows 98 will not install correctly.
