Windows7 Share Printer Issue

Existing Home network:

Desktop running WindowsXP with 2 printers connected to it
Laptop running VISTA

No problems with above setup… and can easily print from the VISTA laptop. Just bought another Laptop running Windows7. I’m able to connect to my wireless system, the internet and the existing workgroup with the new Laptop... and see the other 2 computers. However, I’m not able to print. In Windows 7 I try to ‘Add a Network Printer’… receive a list of the two printers, ‘click’ either of the printers, and receive a message indicating that Windows 7 needs to check with Windows Update for a driver. It never finds a driver and I can’t see either printer when I want to print something from the new Laptop. Any suggestions?

 

Visit the website(s) of the printer manufacturer(s) and see whether they have a driver for your printer for Windows 7. If they do, then download and install it.

 

Thanks. I did that before I made the original post… but forgot to mention it. I downloaded the latest installation software and driver from the manufacturer, and tried to install it on the new Win7 Laptop.

During the installation, it asked me to connect the printer to my Laptop…. but it is already connected to my desktop XP system. I followed the same procedure (downloaded latest driver and installation software) for the other printer connected to my desktop. During that installation, I was given the option of indicating the printer was already connected on the network. No such option appears for the printer in question.
