Hi Geeks, I am hoping that I can get some help here. I have an old computer. HP Pavilion 8575c running Win98. I have had the computer for years, bought new at Besy Buy in like 1998 or 99. It has been a good computer but crashed alot as Win98 often does. It finally went totally out and I got a new computer but would like to resurrect the Pavilion for my younger sister. The problem is, I cannot get the Recovery disk to work. It has formatted the drive, but won't install. I get an warning that says "Failed to find ATTRIB.DAT in any LST file on CD1! Proceed anyway? Yes or No. I tell it to proceed anyway by clicking Yes and it goes through the format and then nothing. I know I can just upgrade to a new OS but my biggest issue with that is that I have a CD burner on the Pavilion and would really like to recover the computer and install the software that was on the computer when I got it. I have checked the WWW and have found references to the Recovery CD and have located it but the cd set (there are 2 ) in my recovery kit are labeled 5065-1319 but all references are for an 8650 Pavilion and mine is, was a 8575c. I talked to HP and they were very little help because they cannot get me the disk but did refer me to a couple other places. I want to make sure that I have no other options before I spend $65+ for a cd recovery kit that may not even work for me. I know this is alot of information but I am hoping that someone will be able to make sense out of it and help me out. If you need any other info please let me know here as I will check back. Thank you in advance, James RJ Antiques

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for responding and for the welcome. I went to the link you sent and tried the solutions given but still get that same error:

Failed to find ATTRIB.BAT in any LST file on CD1! Proceed anyway? Yes or No

Is it possible that this is not the correct Recovery CD for my machine? Would that cause such the error? It IS the recovery kit that came with it, I know that for sure. I guess I will keep looking for info.

    Thanks again,
    James

You might get other suggestions, if there is a solution. Are you sure you just got one (1) recovery disk?

    Steve
