Player crashes when reading a .mp3 file from a peer machine on my network, which it normally does OK. However once WinDVD crashes there is no turning back. I can repair the installation, no luck. Remove and reinstall with no luck and even revert to an earlier previously good image file and no luck.

The strange thing is that the .mp3 file playing when WinDVD crashed will ALWAYS cause another crash exactly as before in any of the states I mentioned in the above paragraph. Seemingly, other .mp3 and .avi file will play but even then I had an .avi file crash the same way just last evening.

I cannot figure out what may have occurred but it has put me off using WinDVD as my player any longer. Also, during another earlier build of my opsys. I noticed the same behavior. Seems once the opsys is rebuilt then WinDVD behaves for a while, but when it crashes there is apparantly no returning it to proper operation. I'm running WinXP Pro w/SP2 and some hotfixes right now but during the earlier crash, I had SP2 and all hotfixes applied when WinDVD crashed.

What are my best troubleshooting options avaiable here and is their relevant expertise that may be able to offer advice outside of the InterVideo support staff?

    Thanks!

BTW, I didn't happen to notice this was the hardware sub-forum. Please move my post if need be.
