winfixer problem

I have been caught by this bug. I use XP Pro and have run Hijack This. I am not sure how to attach the log file. I think I got it but time will tell. I must say this is one onery spyware file.

I did all the things suggested prior to using Hijack and I ran Hijack as recommended. After reviewing the tutorial I found a couple of suspect entries which I tried to remove but Hijack did not remove them. One was an O2 entry: BHO MSEvents Object which did not appear in the CLSID list. It had a dll file called ssqrr.dll which I could not find in the dll archives. I think it might be the culprit. That dll appears again as an O20 entry: Winlogon Notify: ssqrr - C:\WINXP\system32\ssqrr.dll. That file appears in my directory about the time I began having trouble with winfixer- 9/8/05. I am not absolutely sure but that does look suspicious. In any event Hijack did not fix the problem. Any suggestions.

 

Vundo got rid of the dll file. I Will see if that cures my problem. I will attach a copy of the hijack log file after the issue was cleaned.

Since your fix I have had no interference from winfixer yet. It was really becoming intrusive this morning so i think your advice was the ticket. Thanks again. BTW do you have any suggestions on how to streamline my startup package. Every time I add something it wants to add something to the startup file. What guidelines might help determine how to answer those questions? I also assume that I can turn on the restore function now.
