Wininet.dll Trouble Help!!!!

The message:

"This application has failed to start because wininet.dll was not found. Reinstalling may fix the problem"

appears when i click on most of the programs. ad-aware, spybot and IE in particular.

I have scanned with AVG in normal and safe mode's and my HJT log looks clean. Should I try and replace the .Dll file itself and what if that doesn't work.

I can't re-install xp because my mate has only one drive with all his files. Please help.

 

Do you have a Windows disk?

 

yes. but the one on the disk looks like wininet.dd_ and i try to copy it but it says something about burning...?

 

Put in you windows disk and do the following...

Click Start > Run > Type in:

cd c:\
press enter

copy D:\i386\wininet.dll c:\windows\system32
press enter
(Where C:\ & D:\ are, if yours are different change the letters)

After doing the above, it should say 1 file copied, afterwards reboot and attach a HJT log from normal mode.
