wininit.exe

    Hi guys, i installed PC Tools firewall today and i got an alert from it that said wininit.exe was trying to connect to the internet.

    I had a look and i have winnit.exe in system 32 and it says it's a windows start-up application. is this true or is it something to worry about?

    I done a search on processlibrary.com and it says it is the WOLLF.16 virus:eek

    I thought i would check to see if i should go ahead and go through READ & RUN ME FIRST. i have vista 32 bit OS.

    Please get your names correct. Is it wininit.exe or is it winnit.exe as you stated on the second line? Either way, neither of those are valid. WININET.DLL is valid and so is winlogon.exe but these are not what you said. Thus yes you should run the READ ME if you are really seeing wininet.exe trying to run.

    Hi chaslang, sorry about the typo on the second line but it is wininit.exe im seeing in system 32.
    I will run the READ ME and post back.

    Sorry I did not notice that you were running Vista. For Vista wininet.exe is valid if in the system32 folder.

    Hi chaslang. Thanks for the reply. Here is a screen shot to show where wininit.exe is located.
    I think it is where it should be but thought i would let you see to make sure.

    Yes that is where the wininet.exe file for Vista should be running from.
