    Hi and welcome

May not be a malware issue if you have reboots as it maybe a incompatible driver or software update, have you installed any updated drivers or new software before this started to happen?

But to rule malware out as the cause, please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

ok thanks for the help, i did the steps in the read me first thing, after i posted this last message, didnt see that before, ccleaner removed quite a few things, and in the list of programs in the add/remove thingy in the control panel, i removed 2 things. but it still does the same thing says that there is an error on winlogon, and reboots, not emidiatly though, i left my computer on while i was out w/ my dog and when i came back it had rebooted, so it seems it likes to reboot while one is afk, i cant run windefender since it requires "origininal windows" something, also cant update internet explorer or anything, because of this unreal windows that i have, original disk and stuff just not the real serioal since we have multiple computers but only one key and they cost like $200 anyways ill try to get the logs...

You need to run all the steps and attach the correct logs.

You did not run the two onlines scanners (Bitdefender and Panda ActiveScan) and attach the logs.

Also we asked for newfiles.txt not tmpnewfiles.txt which is just a temporary file that goes away after ShowNew completes.

Also did you run CounterSpy after getting your HJT log? It looks like it, and that's the wrong order. The READ ME must be run in the order written.

    liquid84 Private E-2

    ok tnx,
    ill try it again,

so were do i get newfiles.txt?
do i have to redo all the steps?

  8. liquid84

    liquid84 Private E-2

ok, just tried to run bitdefender, it didnt work after like 20% or so it crashed along with IE came up some send/dont send error report thing on internet explorer, and since it werent possible to run it on firefox, i skipped that part,

ran a panda scan now as well worked fine, didnt find anything at all, so there were no log, however when it scanned there came up some nod32 warnings, thats my virus program, that was on some old files so i just deleted it all ;)

dont think that has anything to do with this problem,

it feels like its something with IE and since i cant update it because of microsofts validation thing, can one uninstall IE? how could i get it back if i do? is there a way to get IE7 w/o validating windows?

i'll rerturn and post a new HJT when ive run through the steps again so it comes in the right order,

newfiles.txt is right where the procedure tells you. And that is c:\newfiles.txt. If you are not seeing a notepad window popup with this log in it or this file is not being created, you must make sure you followed the directions and extracted ALL files from the ZIP file and that you run ShowNew.bat from a Windows Explorer session. You MUST NOT run ShowNew.bat from inside of the ZIP file.

I don't need you to run the procedure all over again. I know you may have run things in the wrong order but just get the ShowNew log and a new HJT log attached.

IE is an integral part of your OS and it is required. You cannot uninstall it.

This is the malware forum. We do not discuss updating or IE or any other Windows programs here. But note, you will not get any help on this for an illegal copy of Windows. If you want to get updates, get a valid license.

Let's start by addressing a few things that were not done correctly while running the READ & RUN ME.
    1. The below to programs should have been uninstall per step 0 of the READ ME. Please uninstall them now:
      • MediaTickets by OIN
      • Safety Bar
    2. You are running Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 which has not been used in two years. You need to click on the links in the READ ME to always verify you are using the correct versions of software. Download and install Spybot from the link in the READ ME.
    3. You are using old versions of Sun Java which means you did not update as requested in the READ ME.
      • First install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then uninstall the below old versions of software:
        J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Now let's continue with your malware removal!

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach that log in your next reply.

Note: process.exe ( which is used my SmitFraudFIx ) is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. The below is a link to what process.exe is.

    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

    Questions:

    1) What is the below folder you recently created:
    C:\
    SYSTOOLS 2006-09-19 "systools"

    2) Is the below something you recently installed:
    C:\Program\
    PRINTV~1 2006-09-16 "PrintView"

PrintView is malware. Uninstall it if still installed.

i removed media tickets, there came up a window one had to enter a code inte to uninstall? well did that anyways, when i was gonna remove safety bar, it said (roughly translated) "an error occoured when safety bar were to be removed. it has maybe already beeen uninstalled. do u want to remove SB from add/remove programs list?" yes/no chose yes so i guess its already gone, ye i had spybot since a cpl o years ago good program figured it would be the same due to updates, seems not, ill fix that step now,

here is smitfraud rapport, as requested, it didnt say anything about process.exe

the systools folder is a folder i created when i started positng here, with some of the stuff i downloaded from this site, so i don't think theres anything to worry about there, why?

printview however is nothing i've installed don't even have printer on this comp.

it is not in hte add/remove list, so pls tell me how to get rid of it if that doesnt mean that it is gone....

Because it was new and so are your problems! So I was just wondering what it was since it does not match the name of anything recognized.

Looks like CounterSpy tookcare of most of it already. So just see if you can delete the folder. Use safe boot mode if necessary.

Let's continue with your SmitFraud infection removal!

PLEASE READ ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. Ask any questions that you may have before starting.

Please print out or copy these instructions to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. Again, if there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode per the safe directions in the READ & RUN ME.

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder of your Desktop, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.

Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If it is infected and a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace the infected wininet.dll with the clean file. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. BUT Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please attach this log along in your next reply.

After doing the above and attach the new rapport.txt log, also attach the below new logs:
    - HJT
    - ShowNew
    - GetRunKey

ok so by reboot to safe mode u mean run msconfig check safemode press ok
pull out internet cable, anything else there?
thing is with smitfraud, u said it could take some time and taht i should be patient , it took like 2 sec to run the scan that i posted the log for last "post"

I told you that in message number 12 in question # 2 at the end. It's under C:\Program Files

Using msconfig is only required if you cannot get the F8 key to be recognized at boot up to get to the proper boot menus. You don't need to unplug the cables or do anything else.

Please download and install Registrar Lite Make sure you select a Majorgeeks download link and not the Authors!

Run Registrar Lite navigate to the following key and take ownership of it (explained further down):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\mssmgr

To take ownership of the key do the following:
    • Copy & Paste the registry key from above into the address bar of Registrar Lite and hit the enter key. This will bring you to the registry key.
    • Click-on Security in the Menu
    • Select Take Ownership
    • Now leave RegistrarLite running and continue
    • Now run the REGISTRY PATCH below in this message.
    • Tell me the results. Any error messages?
    • Now in RegistrarLite click View and then Refresh
    • Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\mssmgr
    • Does the above mssmgr key still exist! If so, right click on it and select Delete.
    Here is the Registry Patch

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixWLK.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

After completing ALL of the above instructions, continue here!

Start by downloading two tools we will need

    - Process Explorer

    - Pocket KillBox

Extract them to their own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate them later.

IMPORTANT: You should print or save the below locally, so you can refer to them while offline. You must exit all browsers before running the below steps and it would be best if you actually physically unplug your cable to the internet, reboot, and do not run anything but what I give you to do. Also it would be good to exit all processes and items in your System tray.

Do the above before continuing! Okay unplug your cable now.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)

    - Run Process Explorer

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of winwly32.dll once and then click the kill button. After you have killed all of the winwly32.dll under winlogon click ok. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    h618.dll

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of winwly32.dll and kill it. (If you do not find the dll, just continue on.)

Now repeat the above step for the below DLLs (If you do not find the dll, just continue on):
    h618.dll

    Now just exit Process Explorer.

Please run HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools Section button on the open page. Then select Open process manager on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click Kill process. Then click yes.
    C:\Program\Delade filer\{5C0B0463-0D3F-1053-0223-04081606002e}\Update.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ishost.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ismini.exe

After killing all the above processes, click Back.
Then please click Scan and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Driver Manager] mswindrv.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: h618 - C:\WINDOWS\g1361921.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winwly32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winwly32.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK! This will open a command prompt window. In the command prompt window enter the below commands each followed by the Enter key.
    del %windir%\temp\win*.*
    del %windir%\g*.dll
    exit

If you get an error message while doing the above command prompt step, just ignore it and continue!

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Program\Delade filer\{5C0B0463-0D3F-1053-0223-04081606002e}\Update.exe

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).
If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot locate the below folders and delete if found:
    C:\Program\PrintView

Now attach a new HJT log and tell me how the steps went.

Also attach a new log from ShowNew and a new log from GetRunKey.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixWLK.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
After reboot locate the below folder and delete it if found:
    C:\Program\ToolBar888

Now attach a the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.
