winrar won't work

What Windows version an Service Pack?

Is this when you open Winrar directly from its main icon in start menu or are .RAR files whdn you open then opening in iBurn? if the latter then right click a .rar file and choose open with then choose Winrar (may need to browse for its exe in program files folder.

Do you still have the iBurn setup files? if so uninstall the two applications then run Ccleaner http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191 and its cleaner and registry tool, run the registry one until nothing lists for removal, then install winrar first and test, then if ok install iburn again.

 

Hi dont worry about that too much, its just i like background info as fixes change at times between service packs, but type winver into the start sesrch box and hit enter and it will will tell you.

Hsve you tried what I have posted already? as it would be my first thing to try.

Try this and download the RAR file I have put here as I know its a RAR file, and right click it and choose Open With then Choose Default Program, then browse for Winrar's exe and should be in this location C:\Program Files\WinRAR called winrar click it and click Open and this associates Rar files with Winrar. Does the file I ulpoaded open (its just a text file that says Test Winrar)?

What is the location of these rar files you are trying to open?


Also do try uninstalling both those applications and running the instruction I posted in post #2 bottom paragraph.

Ah ok, good that Winrar is working but Sachs made a good point on the extentions of these files, as depending what or where you are downloading from is that they maybe part of a larger rar file as they are split. If you have one corrupt download or a missing file it even they may not be what you thought and not a legitimate archive file then you may see that error, but if Winrar is working now then you should be fine


As to your reg fix then what would you like it to do? but to be honest there will be no reg fix for what was likely a corrupt file/rar, try downloading again or fine another source for the files.
