Winsock Hijack

Hello. I'm sorry I can't give more details but I'm not in front of the problem computer at the moment and won't be for quite some time. Here's the problem. My computer can't pick up an IP address from DHCP. When I run ipconfig /renew it says "The requested service provider can't be loaded." As a result I now have no network connectivity. The PC seems to have been infected by software called new.net. I ran HijackThis and it indicated that I have a Winsock Hijack and that I should download lspfix to correct the issue. I followed the program's instructions and let it remove the files it suggested but to no avail. In a desperate attempt to fix this thing I ran a repair from the XP CD but also to no avail. Anyone know of any links to a good site that explains to how clean this infection and regain network connectivity? I have found a bunch of sites but they all seem to contain different instructions. Please help. Thanks.

 

I really need to see a HijackTHis lgo to make an informed decision, but it sounds like teh Winsock is broken.

Run Winsok XP Fixthen follow the below.

• Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
• Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
• After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

• When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
