    Hi,

I have a problem with wintems.exe which I cant find a way to remove. I have read a little about the trojan and I get the same problems as others with being unable to enter safe mode or to install AVG for example. Ive used ccleaner and malwarebytes antimalware and have basically got to the stage where I am stuck for simple solutions. I have attempted to run gmer with the intention of stopping the wintems.exe process but it fails to run. I have also tried looking at other posts but they seem to get quite specific needing hijackthis logs so I was not sure if I should be following them.

I would really appretiate any help anyone could give me.

    Many thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    Many thanks for the reply.

I was however attempting to fix this problem on a friends computer and this will be a little too complicated for them to continue on their own (I was staying there for a few days). So this post should probably be closed?

Thanks again, sorry for wasting your time.

Our procedures are very easy to do......they really are not hard to accomplish. I would suggest that you have them become members here at MG's and start their own thread so that we can help them. :)
