    Hi,

My PC was turned off without shutting down. Now the blue screen always
appears to do an file system check unless you cancel it.

I let it do it but on step 3 it seems to crash all the time, with no error message
How can i stop this from happening.

Otherwise the PC works fine if you chose to skip the chkdsk ( I have ntfs and winxp home).

I am scared it won't be able to boot at all as the registry could be corrupted.
I saw MS instructions to solve this

The MS intructions are for a pc that won't boot at
all and has specific error messages which I have none of these problems.

There is no way I am going to touch my registry until it seems specific to
    my problem.

    HELP!!

Do a sfc /scanow << With the space in there. While your inside windows, be sure to have your xp install disk handy as it may ask for it to repair files.

Also you could try doing a chkdsk /f <<< space in there as well! This will run the scandisk at bootup but will hopefully repair any problems you may have!

    CRITICAL!

It doesn't boot up at all now as it goes to f1 screen to chose bootup eg safe mode , normal mode.
Nothing works as it just reboots again with every option.

NOW I AM PANICKING as i have programs/data I need.

I have winxp home and tried the R option but it goes to c:/

I ran chkdsk and this is taking ages and I think it is stuck at 50%.

    PLEASE HELP!

run chkdsk /f This is important, if you do not use the /f it will not fix anything!

you could always act like you are going to install xp again let it tell you there is already xp installed then choose repair, not repair in dos utility

    Unbeliavable.

I have already run chkdsk from c: but i didn't use the /f

Now it works properly though AMAZING.

Should I run chkdsk again with /f and what does chkdsk do exactly ?

The problem got worse i remember (and failed to boot at all)after i ran eusing free registry cleaner and MS malaware scan.

Well without the /f parameter it will only find not fix problems with your disk. So I say yeah run it again and us e the chkdsk /f . It will tell you that it cannot, disk is locked "can do on reboot?" Choose yes and then reboot

There is no /f paramter only /p /r (something like that but definetly not /f) which I did both.
