winxp demanding password when none is set

    Hello. :)
    A friend of mine had a black screen crash the other day on his dell desktop, running winxp. He got error code: 0000218. I advised him to try to do a repair install using his windows CD. But, ever since the crash, his machine is demanding a password, even though no password is set. (pressing enter on default administrator is rejected) Recovery disc scan confirms no pass is set.

    Does any one know how to get around this apparent stalemate?

    Any help much appreciated.

    could try disabling the passwords buy using the below....

    Click Start > Run type Control Userpasswords2 and press enter > Uncheck the box for Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer > Click Apply and Ok
