Before I get referred to the Drivers Forum, let me explain what's going on here. It is not a driver problem. When the printer is connected to the PC, it prints just fine (and scans, etc; it's a Lexmark X5470 all-in-one). The thing is, that regardless of whether the printer is plugged in to the USB port, Windows starts the New Hardware Wizard at boot up saying a new printer has been found. Even with the printer UNPLUGGED from the PC it does this. I can click Cancel and go on my way, but it shouldn't do this, esp. when the printer isn't even connected to the PC. But it also does it when the printer is plugged in with all the drivers installed. I have uninstalled the Lexmark software and reinstalled it several times, I have run the MS Installer Cleanup tool, I even did a repair install of Windows.... still it launches the New Hardware Wizard. So, any ideas?

    Thanks.

Thanks Halo. As soon as I enabled the "show hidden devices" I saw 2 unknowns. Removed 'em, rebooted, and now that party of the battle is over! :celebrate Sometimes the remarkably simple fixes are the most easily overlooked :-o

    Thanks again!
