Winxp Laptop: Power Supply Missing!

Hi! I'm at my mother's house right now, and my WinXP laptop there's power supply is missing. ( How do I determine the type of power supply it takes? Where can I find one? How much would it cost? I live in the U.S.

 

Look of the brand and model number of the laptop.

Alternatively, there are Universal Laptop Chargers like this one.

I like that particular type because it automatically selects the correct voltage. You just need to make sure select the correct tip.

I recommend a universal charger because it can be used on virtually any laptop whereas if you buy an exact replacement for that (obviously old) WinXP laptop, it may only work with that laptop. And since it seems obvious that is a very old laptop, do you even know if it works? If the current battery is any good?

 

The current battery on it is bad, so I need a power supply. In fact, IIRC, its battery is missing. It still works but not well. And it's the only computer I have here that can make out disks for my Commodores. Someone here promised me a new laptop, but I have yet to get it. Thank you for the link: I'll check it out now.

 

I have two new Win7/32 laptops at my mother's house along with a new Win98SE minitower now. I'm working on stuffing the minitower. I don't really need the WinXP now but have some stuff to extract from its hard drive. I want to sell it on eBay, but the laptop has issues, such as only one working USB port and no battery. Is it worth selling?

 

It is not worth buying so likely not worth trying to sell. Sadly, it is just a fact of life that electronics becomes old and obsolete, often while still working properly. And our only choice is to throw it in the trash or take it to a proper electronics recycling center where the hazardous waste materials can be properly disposed of.

I'm at my mother's house again, and the WinXP laptop in question is an HP laptop. Other than that, the only descriptive mark is the words "Altec Lansing." The laptop is poor but still can be used, so I want to buy a new power supply for it. Where can I find one? For what type should I search?

 

Model info on the bottom? on the screen bezel?

Old hardware is fun, but sometimes a legacy machine has just found the end of it's useful existence...

 

You're right, but I want to extract some batch files and old C64/Plus4 games from it, as I've been using it to make out disks for some old Commodore 8-bit machines at my mother's house. I have other computers to do the job but want the batch files that helped do the job and the software I put there and compressed. I heard I could remove the hard drive from that laptop, connect it to another computer with an adapter and extract the info. Which is more expensive: the adapter or a new power supply? If I get the information, what can I do with the old computer?
