WinXP Pro SP3 - in the device manager, I have a yellow ! next to the video driver, and the properties tell me the driver isn't installed. OK. No big deal. I downloaded the driver from HP (the PC is a Compaq S6500NX), I unzip it using TUGzip as I have hundreds of times with hundreds of drivers, then proceed to install it thru the device manager > hardware wizard > "have disk" method. The install goes smoothly, it gets right to the end, the errors out with an "access is denied" error. A screen shot is attached below. I've tried running the driver's setup.exe file, I've tried uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs, I've tried uninstalling the device with a right-click>uninstall in the device manager, nothing has worked . . . . any help is appreciated

(I was going to post in the driver forum, but this seems more like a Windows problem than a driver problem :confused I don't know . . . whatever)

This usually happens when you have a video card installed and your driver is for the onboard video, would this be the case??? ed

Nope. There's no video card, only the on-board video. Actually, the owner of the PC brought it in 'cuz they couldn't get the internet working, which I fixed (they had 2 PCI ethernet PCI cards plus the on-board ethernet!), and they don't wan to pay for anything else. I hate to leave a job incomplete like this, so I figured if it was a quick-n-easy fix, I'd do the video problem too, but it's not looking like a quick-n-easy fix.
    :(

Problem solved . . . the driver update available at the HP/Compaq web site is faulty. I downloaded the same driver that was released for a different model and it worked perfectly.....

    :confused

Freekin' HP and their freekin' drivers.....

    ..... at least I didn't leave the job half-finished .....

That is really wild, dlb. I was trying to find some info for you, but kept hitting road blocks. I HAVE WinXP Pro SP3 but a Dell, not a HP. Glad you got it taken care of.. I couldn't find anything, other than to go to the Dell site and dl a new driver. Dah, that wouldn't quite work out for you. Glad it is up and running now ;)
