I am trying to network a laptop running Win2k with a desktop running WinXP. The desktop has a wireless router hardwired to it. The laptop is using a network adapter. WinXP has function that you can create a disk for loading on the computer that you want to set up. This disk doesn't work on Win2K.
I have put both computers put in the same workgroup, so how now do I get the laptop to connect with the desktop.
I have tried searching for other computers with the laptop, but nothing.
    Thanks

Are you able to ping the IP address of the other workstation? Is the Firewall on both PCs allowing the LAN to be a "Trusted" zone? If you cannot get a Ping from either comptuer, then the Firewall would be the next area to check. Also, check to make sure that you are actually getting an IP from the Router.

I know this is a dumb question but where do I get the IP address from the computer. I think you open a prompt window and type "ping address".
    Is that correct?

The network adaptor Icon in Network neighborhood, or when you open a Command window (Run > CMD), and type 'ipconfig /all' will bring up your network adaptor IP and other good info that you will need.

I have pinged from both computers no problem.
I try to do a search for computers, with nothing showing.
I have the firewalls turned off right now.
