I have three computers Two have XP OS and one, the oldest and topic of this letter has ME. I reciently moved to an area that has fast cable internet and I signed up. The two computers that have XP OS both work well, but the otherone was not equiped with a wireless adapter. I ordered an Linksys adapter, installed it and it would not work I spoke with Linksys support and they threw their hands up. I returned the Linksys adapter and ordered a Trendnet TEW 421PC TEW 423PI adapter with the same results I returned that one also and replaced it with another of the same make and model. I have gotten a listing in the hardware wizard under Other Devices but no listing in the Device Manager. This is a Computer manufactured as an IBM clone in 1996 with an Award Modular BIOS v4.5pg system and 166mhz processor. The adapter card still will not work, I've been three months trying to no avail. Does anyone have an answer?

Your computer may be too slow to run a Wi-Fi adapter. Are you trying to use PCI adapters or a USB dongles?

check the hardware requirements for the adapters to see if your computer can even run them.

The only thing that is differant from the manufactures spec.,s for the adapte4r is the processer speed my computer is 166mhz instead of 300mhz however are you going to tell me that the adapter can't keep up with the processer or that the processer is to slow for the adapter, I hardly think so!
    Awaiting you reply, sincerly,

    Hi Carl,

A 166Mhz PC and you're trying to use wireless ... please, get a PCI 10/100 ethernet card (Realtek RTL8139-based chipset - works on all PCs and MACs of that age) and use a length of cable to your router. It'll keep your stress levels down ;)
