Im using a dell laptop.. running XP service pack 2. The laptop has got a built in wireless card and connects to a router that is shared with about 4-5 pcs/laptops.

When theres no internet connection the other laptops/pc that use a wireless usb adpator or built in wireless card seem to still work perfectly fine.

    Any clues?

    Thanks

Does your wireless connection on that particular laptop come and go at will? Or only when you're doing certain things like downloading a large file?

And did you stop the computer from allowing xp to turn it off when not needed? Under power in the wireless card properties.

Yh just happens at random times:S

Hmm the wireless care stays on all the time, since i do alot of my work over the internet.

Im using that Intel ProSet Wireless software could that be the problem? Ive tried both (Microsoft Client) as well and still get the same problem :S

    Thanks

A bit of background info please. Is this a new addition to your wireless network or did it work fine before and then began having problems. Given that the other clients ie laptops / desktops in your wireless system are not experiencing this type of symptom, then client location would seem to be the issue here.

How far is the client laptop from the wireless router? When you place another one of the clients in the same location does it too loose wireless connectivity? Does the problematic client laptop behave when moved closer to the wireless router?

As a general comment, the layout of your home can severely influence wireless transmission? On board wireless cards are in my personal opinion such utter c**p. PCMCIA flavours behave much better.

Your wireless router has an antenna on it, usually a small 3db version. On some wireless routers you can replace it with a more powerful one (5-7db)and this can help.

As a final comment, if your laptop was fine before (at its problematic location), then one should also consider that there is a signal confilct ie there is a new wireless network from one of your neighbours which now creates a disturbance.

    Good Luck

The wireless on the laptop use to work perfectly before but jst last month or so been having the problem.
Right next to the laptop,I've got a pc that uses one of those wireless usb adaptors. When the laptops wireless dont work, the pc wireless still works fine. So im sure its not the location of the laptop within the house.

The funny thing is the problem normally happens at night time but rarely during the day. :S

    Thanks
