OK, this looks like a place where I might find some answers. I am having intermittent problems with wireless internet access at home on my laptop.

I have an HP Pavilion 2.8ghz celeron with 512MB RAM, built in Broadcom 802.11b/g network card. I am connecting to my home network and internet through a Linksys WRT54G and Roadrunner Cable Modem. Also have a desktop wired to the router and an iBook connecting wirelessly.

If I stop using the internet connection on the HP for more than about 20 minutes or so I lose the ability to look at the internet. I can still connect to the other computers on the internet, can still ping external IP addresses. SO I feel like this might be a DNS problem.

To get back to the internet I have to either restart the HP, or disable and then re-enable the network card.

I have updated drivers on the network card and router (since this problem started), have updated and run my anti-virus and spyware software.

Interestingly the Apple does not seem to have the same problem. I can sit at that at any time and surf the web.

I am currently set up on the HP to get IP address and DNS server address automatically.

    Anyone go any ideas?
    thanks
    Gareth
p.s. Will post my ipconfig /all results if I can figure how to copy from the command window (doh)

Sounds like a DNS issue for sure.....
why don't you just set static DNS?

Because if he uses static dns, it make cause issues when trying to use wireless at other locations. Try the following commands in the dos prompt and see if it helps.
    first
    ipconfig /flushdns
    then
    netsh winsock reset
    and reboot and try this.

Thanks guys, it seems to have worked, so far at least. You are right about the static thing, I did run into some trouble while out and about.

Out of interest, what did the netsh winsock reset actually do?
    Thanks
