    Greetings from Indonesia
    In trying to get a wifi card to function as a hotspot .. I ascertained that it was compatible,
    (01:06.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT2500 802.11g (rev 01))

    and then go to the stage where I obtain:

    /etc/init.d/hostapd restart
    * Bringing up interface wlan0
    180.254.188.156
    * Starting wpa_supplicant on wlan0 ... [ ok ]
    * Starting wpa_cli on wlan0 ... [ ok ]
    * Backgrounding ... ...
    * WARNING: net.wlan0 has started, but is inactive
    * WARNING: hostapd is scheduled to start when net.wlan0 has started

    All the relevant info I can think of is below.

    I'm looking for advice on how to diagnose these warnings.

    Best wishes. Thanks

    nano /etc/conf.d/net
    config_wlan=( "192.168.1.33 netmask 255.255.255.0" )

    mode_wlan="Master"
    channel_wlan="1"

    Hi spacegoat, you have stumped the Linux Geeks who hang here. In searching I found your same posting on another board seeking help. Your help thread on the Sabayon Forum as well has 43 views.

    My only offering is to ask if eth0 will connect, or can you connect using wlan0 before the attempt at the hotspot. Are you seeking to share wlan0 while connected (bridged)?
    I cannot remember if Sabayon is Debian based.

    Here is a 2010 Debian Forum link.

    Hello...
    Firstly you need to check that the card you are using is capable of "master mode" Some are not capable of this and would therefore not be suitable for use as an AP.
    If it's suitable then you at least need to setup a route between the wifi card and your LAN NIC.
    You can of course spec this easily by copying the net. init file and modify this there by bypassing the general net protocol which will use the list from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-rules.net as a list for .eth0,eth1 etc.
    Try disabling wme_enabled=1, my laptops couldn't connect to such ap, disabling it fixed the problem.
    After you was associated with your WLAN you have to run dhclient
    in order to obtain an IP from DHCP server or assign a static IP.
    The routing table must be adjusted also. Or you can edit /etc/rc.conf and restart your network script with "/etc/rc.d/netif restart".

    Cheers!!
    Ronnie
