Hello all, and thank you for taking the time to read my help request thread! =D

My problem is with my internet, i use wireless internet through my usb connected bridge, that streams to my router thats downstairs. It usually works but lately ive been having trouble out of the blue! Well when i leave my computer idle for maybe over 30mins or leave it there, when i come back to it, the internet is not working the signal strength is good, along with the link quality but im not receiving or sending any packets! i try and re-scan but still nothing and i have to re-boot my computer and it works fine, and i was doing that for along time, but now more recently lately i will boot my computer and i will have internet for a couple minites or less and then i will get the same instance! ive tried alot of things like virus scans, clearing all cookies and temp files, and not using the browser and acessing the net, but i still get disconnected often! please if you have any input, feel free, thx so much in advance!

If you have a router, presumably you have another computer in the house that is also connecting to the Internet through the router. Are you having any problem with that machine?

If other machines using that router are not having problems, I'd be suspicious of the NIC that the problem machine is using. Perhaps it is developing a heat-related problem.

Can you swap it out to test that possibility?

No, the other machine is not having this related problem at all, it is always and flawlessly connected to the internet, yet of course it is connected through a ethernet cable not a wireless connection. Im pretty sure it is not a overheating issue, beacuse there are no signs of that and plus i can let the computer sit for minimum 8hours turned off then flip it on and have a couple minutes of internet b4 i get d/c'ed!

We have two observations to work with here:
    • you have a computer that is able to connect with the Internet through the router with no problem; and
    • the wireless signal strength and quality to the problem computer does not seem to be an issue.
That suggests that the router and everything upstream from it is OK. If that were not so, both your computers would be having a problem, or you would see signal strength/quality problems in the wireless link.

Your problem seems to lie in the problem computer, or in its connection to the router. If the problem computer is otherwise behaving itself, the connection to the router is more likely to be the source of the problem.

The NIC is your most likely candidate. The easiest way to test that theory is to swap the NIC for a known-good substitute, or set the NIC up in another computer.

What type of connection to the hub does your computer have that is having problems? And what OS and service pack levels are you running. :)
