Alright, I've got 2 clients (WinXP Home/Pro both sp2 and all updates), one D-link DI-514 and an adsl modem. Since this problem first came up I have swapped the router AND the network cards on both computers, which btw are both D-link DWL520+.

    Problem:
None of the computers can find the wireless network I created. This when running on default settings: Infrastructure, channel 6, auto tx rate, long premable and continuous access mode. If I rescan like a hundred times I can find a *strong* signal, but as soon as I connect to that network it disappears. I can't add the network to a profile, it's long gone before I get that far.

Settings in both computers are set to default (IP settings and such) and it does not matter if Windows controls the wireless network or if D-link software does.

There are NO data encryption enabled. And as said before, the router has been changed, I installed a new one yesterday. Network cards has been swapped as well, by D-link support.

One interesting thing happened yesterday as well... I connected the router with cable, and that went just fine. Got an IP, accessed the internet, nothing wrong. Since it then looked like it was only the wireless network that failed I thought it to be some error with data encryption. So I enabled data encryption on the computer connected via cable, and I enabled it on the router via the webpage. This resulted in a complete loss of transmission. Both networks were out! Then I resetted the router, (held the reset button in until 'status' lights up then goes out) and disabled data encryption on the computer. That didn't change anything. So now both networks are lost.

The only thing left as far as I can tell is distance. Or signal jamming or something. So I moved the router to the distance of 10 cm from the computer, STILL nothing. I mean, the antennas are now almost touching each other...

As far as drivers go I have tried 2 versions, available at dlink.com and I've also upgraded the firmware on the router.

D-Link support are of course long gone.

    Any ideas, pleeeease!

    I have the solution:

Strangely enough when I changed mobo on one of the computers, from a Chieftec to a Gigabyte, all problems ceased. It seems that computer crippled the router somehow coz I only had to cut it loose and restart the router and modem and the other computer just started to work. Odd, but it still works so there's no other explaination.

    Thanks folks!
