    Hi,
    I have a HP Pavilion dv 1048 and a HP deskjet 3840.
My printer doesn't have a wireless function but is there a way I can set it up so I can print from it wirelessly? Maybe by adding a wireless usb stick, or something to it?
I have a wireless router in my home connected to my laptop.

Or do I need to buy a printer that works wirelessly?

    Thanks.

Probably the easiest way is to get a wireless PCMCIA card to stick into the side of your laptop.

Then, all you have to do is "setup a network connection" wizard (or whatever it's called) and setup a network between the two computers, making sure they have the same workgroup name (default is probably either MSHome or Workgroup). During network setup, choose to "Turn on file and printer sharing". After setting up the network, make sure the printer is plugged into and installed on the desktop. Then, on the laptop, find the option "My Network Places". Then click to "View Workgroup Computers". Double-click on the icon that is named the same as the desktop computer. There will then be an icon that says "Printer". Right-click on it and choose connect. The laptop will then install the printer and it will be usable any time you are connected to your home network.

Again, this are the steps in Windows XP. If using another OS, it will be a bit different.

You MIGHT be able to buy a wireless network adapter for the printer from HP, but the wired ones are EXPENSIVE, so I wouldn't even want to imagine what a wireless one would cost. Plus, installing it on a home-class printer would be tricky at best, if even possible.

You would be best buying a printer with a wireless adapter in this case, I think.

Can I ask why it is so important for the printer to have wireless? Is it going to be moving alot? We can help you set it up so anyone on the network can print to it, the printer itself doesn't necessarily need a network connection at all!

Just a thought... let us know!

Oh yeah, I forgot to say it also suggests that you have a desktop computer... that's the "other computer". Heh.

I'm a wheelchair user but usually I sit on recliner chair surrounded by paperwork when on my laptop, so a wireless printer would save me getting back into wheelchair and going to printer everytime I want to print something. It would just make thing easier. Think I'll upgrade my printer.
    Thanks for you help anyways
    Cheers
